New Zealand 2018 VIII. Today´s flight video from New Zealand 2018 Expedition will take you to the Arthur river, to Lake Quill and Fiordland National Park.
Flying New Zealand 2018, Part 8
From Alexandra airport we flew through the canyon of Clutha river down to the southern coast of South island. The narrow and meandering canyon offered an opportunity for great flying experience. After reaching the coast I turned right – to the west and for about an hour we followed the southern coast.
Then one more turn to the right to fly back north. I had to replace the batteries in the outside cameras so we landed at an airstrip called Centre Bush. I guess the name makes it clear it is not a big city with an international airport. The sheep droppings littered our wings from below on landing as well as on departure.
We then flew to Wakatipu Lake and over the popular area around Queenstown up to Wanaka Lake and Wanaka airport.

For Europeans New Zealand is, of course, somewhat far away. Therefore we want to bring this beautiful country to you at least on the videos and photos taken during our flight expedition named „New Zealand 2018“. Jiri Prusa flew this expedition in the first part of February which means in the full New Zealand summer. Despite that the weather was far from ideal. Only about half of the time it was VFR flyable.
The weather however, was no good. The alternative was to fly north-east alongside the coast and over less mountainous area. The eastern part of the South Island was sunny as was the aerodrome of Omaka.
The next video from the New Zealand video series video we will publish on Friday, June 1, 2018.
