If you fly from Channel Islands (airports at Jersey, Guernsey or Alderney) to Britain you must not assume that you already are at British soil. The islands have a special customs status. You therefore need to clear customs at any European country when leaving for the islands and you have to do the same again when arriving to Britain. Both the flights (to and from Channel Islands) are in effect considered international.

The closest international airport in Britain proper is Exeter. It was a bit windy when I landed but other than that everything functioned fine. I was cleared by the H. M. Customs, refuelled and continued from there to explore Britain from the air.
