Video: Unusual landings 2. Second video from the new Unusual landings video series shows touch and go landing at the beach in the north-west part of South Island, New Zealand.
New Zealand, Touch and go landing on the beach
When I discussed a possible beach landing with local experts at Nelson airport in New Zealand the first advice I got was to make a touch and go landing first. This to test the firmness of the sand. The beach must not be too inclined and the tide needs to be low. These were the other pieces of advice I was given.
When flying alongside the western coast of the South Island I tried the beach touch and go landing. This to get ready for a later full stop beach landing. The cameras were on so you can see how it works. The video showing full stop beach ladning will be on our programme Friday next.
